Residents who spent months attending meetings
about Currie Park did so in good faith. We envisioned a small neighborhood café. At no point did the public discussion suggest an 8,000-square-foot restaurant and venue capable of accommodating nearly 400 people. That proposal is completely out of scale for Currie Park and inconsistent with what many residents believed was being planned.
Equally troubling is what it means for Northwood Road., where local restaurants, cafés, and small businesses have struggled while waiting for the park improvements to bring more people into the neighborhood. Instead, the city now appears ready to create a dining destination that could compete directly with the businesses it should be supporting.
Public confidence depends on transparency. When major decisions appear to be made with limited public scrutiny, residents naturally question whether their time, input and testimony ever mattered. Our elected officials are stewards of our public spaces, not owners of them. Currie Park belongs to the people of West Palm Beach. The public deserves accountability and a project that reflects what the community actually asked for, not something far larger that seems to have emerged behind the scenes. It’s time for the city commission to listen and return to the vision residents supported from the beginning.

Promises, promises
It’s a shame that (Florida gubernatorial candidate) Byron Daniels runs TV ads saying he will reduce property taxes and insurance premiums. He knows he can’t do that. It’s all a smoke screen and lies. How can any voter in their right mind believe what he has to say? He takes a page right out of our president’s book. Tell him what they wanna hear.

MAGA's put a hurt on Florida
As a transplanted Floridian, I used to think I had realized my retirement dreams. My expectations initially were fulfilled, with memories of miserable New England winters, high taxes and exorbitant insurance left far behind. I also had expectations of appreciating property values to pass onto my children, something my and my wife's parents were never in a financial position to do. Those expectations are now dead.
Florida is experiencing a complete economic collapse. In the next few years, property values are expected to drop as much as 40% here in South Florida. Why? The reasons range from "affordability" to the effects of abject racism by the MAGA "leadership." Everyday Floridians are being squeezed financially, unable to afford the myriad of recreational opportunities available, let alone daily necessities. As I see it, the only hope for Florida is for the majority of voters to come to grips with fact that ultra-conservatism and racism kills quality of life, especially for those who now regret voting with total disregard for one's self-interest.
