No. 7 Miami seems fit to return to the national championship game — and maybe win it this time — after last week's season-opening 45-6 thrashing of Stanford on Friday. New quarterback Darian Mensah threw for 401 yards and a school-record five touchdowns, even more remarkable considering he tossed only three incompletions. Malachi Toney had that many TD catches, putting up a UM record of his own with 234 receiving yards.
FAMU (1-1) has played more at Hard Rock Stadium this year than the Canes thanks to Sunday's Orange Blossom Classic.
The Rattlers, under first-year coach Quinn Gray, lost to defending Celebration Bowl champ South Carolina State 31-13 and were outgained 479-161 on offense. QB Isaiah Knowles suffered a season-ending thumb injury in the game with Dustin Fletcher closing it out going 6 of 8 for 68 yards.
