A second teenage girl has died following the head-on crash near South Bay that killed a mother and her 14-year-old daughter.
Zion Moore, 13, was one of three passengers riding south on U.S. 27 on Aug. 1 when their driver, 37-year-old Tiffany Silas, lost control of her Cadillac SUV and veered into oncoming traffic. A tractor-trailer struck the SUV, throwing Silas from the car. A Nissan Altima then sideswiped the rear of the Cadillac.
Both Silas and her daughter Maliah died at the scene. First responders pulled Zion and another teenage girl from the wreckage and brought them to St. Mary's Medical Center, where Zion died one week later.
According to a GoFundMe created by a family friend, Zion's mother, Montiah, was in Augusta, Georgia when she learned
of the crash. She "had to travel right away to be with Zion...in the middle of the crisis, Montiah also had to leave her other children in Augusta so she could stay by her daughter's side."
Investigators did not say what caused Silas to lose control of the Cadillac and have not shared an update on the last surviving passenger's condition. The crash remains under investigation.
