Trump pivot starts new 'beef'

So, the rural and beef industry constitutes

are upset by Trump’s decision to remove some beef tariffs, claiming it’s not beneficial to their industry to flood the market with cheap, government-subsidized meat. Removing tariffs are not government subsidies, it’s open market capitalism. The other argument is it’s not the way to rebuild American cattle herds. Since the shortage is primarily due to drought, unless they have come up with an effective form of weather control, tariffs will not solve the issue. Capitalism is all good when the playing field is tilted in your favor. The complaints start when that field is placed in a truly open marketplace.

Healthcare could use better mental health

As a mental health clinician with over 10 years of experience in mental health and substance abuse treatment, I’ve spent my career helping people process trauma and rebuild their lives. But, I’ve witnessed a troubling pattern in my field: behavioral health organizations that build their mission around client wellness while failing to extend that same care to their own employees.

I’ve worked in facilities where staff quietly struggle with the same conditions we treat daily — anxiety, depression, burnout — while management responds with dismissal instead of support, punishment instead of accommodation. This isn’t a small inconsistency. If an organization’s purpose is healing, and it can’t apply that principle to the people delivering care, something is broken. Burned-out clinicians don’t just suffer personally — it affects every client’s care. Behavioral health providers should lead on workplace mental health, not be exceptions to it.

Nixon needs a tweak in her platform

Angie Nixon, thank goodness that you are not an aggressively obnoxious member of the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America). Going forward, you may win in November if you act exclusively as an “affordability” Democrat welcoming to Independents in the middle. You do need to correct a mistake. You are wrong to say that the U.S. should not arm and support Israel. Netanyahu is not good for Israel, but you do not have to be Jewish to admire the amazing Israeli people and to want them to always have strong defenses and good leadership. At the same time, those Muslims who are peace-loving and helpless need a hand up. Most people deserve human kindness and want strong defenses against hate. These are the same things you want and can bring to Florida and the USA.

The closer to November, the coarser the politics

While listening to both Republican and Democratic legislators, along with news pundits, describe each other's party, they both seem to claim such extreme views. I often hear that we should turn down such dialogue when expressing views we disagree with instead of being specific of the policies we don’t agree with. People today don’t seem to care of the disgusting names our elected officials call someone they see as not supportive of them or their party. Politics today seems to have become like a reality TV show. So stay tuned for the midterm elections as each party gets down to some serious mudslinging and deceptive campaigning. I guess this is now the new norm in American politics.
