U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle was asked to resign, the White House announced Oct. 13.
President Donald Trump said the day prior he was considering firing Guilfoyle after the Wall Street Journal reported that she messaged Trump donor Eric Deters asking him to pay $100,000 toward her American Express bill days before her Senate confirmation hearing in 2025. Guilfoyle’s lawyer said she disputed the authenticity of the messages.
Asked about the impending decision at her first press briefing, new White House press secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed Guilfoyle's dismissal.
"We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team and we wish her well," Zacharia said.
The latest report is not the first controversy
kicked up by Guilfoyle, who was once engaged to Donald Trump Jr. and a part of the Palm Beach County community.

Trump was asked by reporters on Oct. 9 whether he had heard of the most recent WSJ report about Guilfoyle.
“I just heard about it, too bad,” Trump responded. “I don’t know too much, but she was always very nice.”
Then, following reports from CNN and the Associated Press that she could be fired over the latest report, he said,
"Well, we're looking at it. Yeah, we're not happy," Trump told reporters, as he departed the White House for a campaign event on Oct. 12.
Who is Donald Trump Jr. now married to?
Trump Jr. started dating Guilfoyle in 2018 after his divorce from Vanessa Trump was finalized. The two got engaged in 2021, but separated in 2024. (Guilfoyle was also once married to California Gov. Gavin Newsom.)
Earlier this year, Trump Jr. married Bettina Anderson, now Trump, a socialite and model based in Palm Beach, Florida.
She is the daughter of a Palm Beach businessman and philanthropist, Harry Loy Anderson Jr., and Inger Anderson. Harry Loy Anderson Jr. also had three other daughters and two sons, according to his obituary in the Palm Beach Daily News, part of the USA TODAY Network.
