Carol City's postgame brawl in Georgia may cost the team a chance to win a state football championship.
The Florida High School Athletic Association announced on Oct. 8 that Carol City's program has been placed on restrictive probation, and 15 players were suspended as a result of the brawl following the team's loss to Grayson.
Programs on restrictive probation have "the additional consequence of restriction from participation in championship competition ... or other restrictions deemed appropriate by the Executive Director, for one or more calendar years," according to the FHSAA Handbook.
Of the 15 players suspended, four are banned for any FHSAA contest through Dec. 13, nine are suspended for the next five FHSAA football games and two are suspended for just
the next football game.
Carol City, which was also fined $1,500, can appeal the FHSAA's decision.
Carol City (3-3) is currently ranked No. 6 in the MaxPreps rankings, which would put the Chiefs in the Open Division.
Carol City and Grayson players were involved in a brawl following the Chiefs 10-9 loss on Friday, Oct. 2. The situation started in the postgame handshake line when a Carol City player threw a punch and the situation quickly escalated.
This had been boiling over all night.

No Grayson players were seen throwing punches.
The Georgia High School Association announced on Tuesday that four Grayson players would be suspended for one game for their actions.
