Jurors have convicted a Jupiter Farms man of second-degree murder in the 2021 fatal shooting of the male companion of his estranged wife.
Circuit Judge John Parnofiello delayed sentencing of Brian Canarelli, now 46, after jurors announced their verdict on Friday, Sept. 25, at the Palm Beach County Courthouse in West Palm Beach.
Media reports identified the man who died as James Berger. Court records identify the woman as Victoria Canarelli.
Jurors chose to convict Canarelli, now 46, of second-degree murder with a firearm. They had to option to find him guilty of first-degree murder with a firearm as well.

Canarelli's arrest report said he and the man identified as Berger argued on June 22, 2021, when Canarelli appeared at the woman's home on 98th
Trail North, near Jupiter Farms Park.
She had called Canarelli to pick up their son. The man identified as Berger was upset to see Canarelli there, and the men got into an argument at the home's gate, according to his arrest report from the Sheriff's Office.
Canarelli then pulled out a gun and shot the man several times, including after he fell to the ground, according to the arrest report.
Parnofiello ordered a presentencing investigation at the request of Canarelli's attorneys, court documents show.
The judge did not schedule a date for the sentencing.
