The Miami Dolphins have released struggling place-kicker Riley Patterson and waived cornerback Storm Duck.
They signed kicker Zane Gonzalez to the practice squad and he likely will be activated before Sunday's game at the New York Jets. Gonzalez was with the team in the preseason before suffering an injury.
Patterson, who has appeared in 66 games in six seasons and has been with Miami for the last two, was 7 of 9 on field-goal attempts and 5 of 6 on extra points this season for the winless Dolphins. The coaching staff also has not been happy with his kickoffs.
"We did try to kick him out of the end zone and that was discussed and just not executed the way that we wanted it to be," Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley said Monday when asked about the team's
kickoffs.
For his career, Patterson converted 97-of-112 career field goal attempts (86.6 percent), along with 148-of-154 extra points (96.1 percent).
Gonzalez was signed by Miami as an unrestricted free agent in March. He spent the offseason program and training camp with the team. He has appeared in 78 career games in seven seasons with Cleveland (2017-18), Arizona (2018-20), Carolina (2021), Washington (2024) and Atlanta (2025). Gonzalez has converted 115 of 142 career field goal attempts (81 percent), including 59 of 82 from 40-plus yards (72 percent), along with 163 of 171 extra points (95.3 percent).
Duck was waived off the Physically Unable to Perform list. He had a promising rookie season in 2024 but had been sidelined by a season-ending knee injury suffered against the New York Jets in October 2025 that carried over to training camp when he went on the PUP list. He had been practicing for the last two weeks and this was the week the Dolphins faced a decision on whether to activate or release him.
The Dolphins also announced that edge Rodney McGraw had been added to the active roster off the practice squad and Andre Jones Jr. had been waived.
