A Tri-Rail struck and killed a person Wednesday morning in West Palm Beach.
Authorities did not immediately name the person or say whether they were walking, bicycling or driving across the tracks. West Palm Beach police are investigating the crash, which happened at the intersection of Windsor Avenue and Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard at about 5:35 a.m.
Wednesday's death is at least the fifth involving a South Florida passenger rail train since May.
On Aug. 2, 47-year-old Martin Gonzalez walked into the train's path near downtown Lake Worth Beach "for reasons unknown." Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, near the intersection of Lake Avenue and North G Street.
In July, 38-year-old bicyclist Ulisses Aponte was struck and killed as he crossed
in front of a Tri-Rail train in Lake Worth Beach. In May, 56-year-old Catalina Gabriel Lopez and 43-year-old Eduardo Otoniel Gabriel Lopez died after driving into the side of a passing Brightline train in West Palm Beach.
Not every crash has been fatal. In August 2025, a Brightline engineer spotted a car on the tracks in downtown West Palm Beach and slowed down enough to strike the car without injuring the driver.
