MIAMI GARDENS ― Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley is taking the right approach with edge rusher Chop Robinson.
Robinson wants to do well, but he has to understand how important it is to the team that he do well.
Consistently.
"I got it," Hafley said following a dominant Chop performance at Minnesota. "Congrats. You had your 10 pressures in your sack. I love it. But can you do it again? Because if you don't, then it doesn't matter."
Hafley does not have an issue with Robinsons' approach.
"I love this guy's attitude," Hafley said of Chop. "I love the way he practices, I love the way he works. He is totally bought in. And I just, I'm excited for the guy."
But Hafley is going to push Chop. He's going to try to squeeze more out of his talent.
This Dolphins regime
did not draft Chop in the first round.
But they really need Chop Robinson - and defensive tackle Kenneth Grant for that matter, too - to not be a bust. The edge rusher and defensive tackle positions are too important to completely whiff on first rounders.
Hafley has noted from the start that he is going to push players like Chop and Kenneth to reach their potential.
It had not happened before his Hafley's arrival. But the accountability is refreshing. Demanding more is refreshing.
It's all good. It's an important change inside the Dolphins building.
Enjoy the Dolphins-Bengals game, folks.
They've got a realistic shot to earn their first win.
