Living among the clouds is becoming a reality in South Florida.
The tallest building south of New York City is rising in Miami at 100 stories tall, and the tallest building in Palm Beach County doesn’t come close to its height.
The super tall skyscraper Waldorf Astoria Hotel & Residences Miami, which broke ground in 2022 and is designed to resemble nine glass cubes stacked on top of each other, will be 1,049 feet tall when construction tops out in the fall, according to a spokesperson with Property Markets Group, the developer. Construction is expected to finish in 2028.
The building will include 387 private residences and 205 hotel rooms once completed. The homes are more than 90% sold, with the remaining units selling for prices between $3.5
million to $50 million. The hotel rates are still being decided.
Miami's super tall skyscraper to feature restaurant, pool and wellness spa
The building features a specialty restaurant, event spaces, boardrooms, a resort-style pool deck with cabanas, a holistic wellness spa and fitness center for hotel guests and residents.
And there are special features set aside just for residents. They will have access to an owners-only lobby and lounge, hospitality suite for chef’s tastings and soirees, billiard room, kid’s club and elevated pool deck, the spokesperson said.

Another ultra-lux, super tall building is set to neighbor the Waldorf Astoria Hotel & Residences Miami once it breaks ground as early as next year: the 985-foot-tall Delano Residences & Hotel Miami.
“We continue to see strong demand for luxury condominiums in Florida, and I think that demand is becoming more sophisticated," said Ryan Shear, managing partner at PMG, responding to questions from USA TODAY Network-Florida about its Waldorf Astoria Miami and Delano Residences Miami projects.
"Buyers today are looking beyond just the address or size of a residence. They're looking for quality, design, service and a lifestyle that feels authentic to them. Florida has become a truly global market in the last few years, attracting buyers from across the country and around the world, and we continue to see strong interest from both groups."
How do these buildings size up with Palm Beach County’s tall towers?
What is the tallest building in Palm Beach County?
Look no further than West Palm Beach for sky-high towers. The city has a tower-dotted skyline of its own, even if it pales in comparison with Miami’s.
West Palm Beach’s tallest buildings are The One West Palm towers at 550 Quadrille Boulevard, according to a city spokesperson. Its office building is 430 feet tall and residential building is 368 feet tall, the spokesperson said. While its height is no match for the Waldorf Astoria, the two towers do have one thing in common: they both have a stacked-cubes design.
Palm Beach County’s new buildings are trending taller.
The transformation comes as the region's population has swelled with high-income residents from the Northeast freed to work remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic. The trend has led to a surge in demand for luxury apartments and urban-style living in an area long dominated by single-family homes.
