It's rare for a preseason game to gain revenge game status. And while both Miami Dolphins fans and Tua Tagovailoa have a lot more to worry about than getting back at one another, the atmosphere tonight at Hard Rock Stadium promises to be one of a kind.
Tagovailoa played six seasons in the orange and aqua, leading the NFL in passing yards in 2023 and leading the Dolphins to two playoff appearances. But he was released midway through a four-year mega-deal as Miami decided to start from scratch, and the former No. 5 overall draft pick is now in a quarterback battle with Michael Penix in Atlanta. Tagovailoa will get the start as Penix continues to recover from a knee injury; he had a rough time in his first game with the Falcons.
Meanwhile, while Miami
seems content with new QB Malik Willis, though the rest of the team has left a lot to be desired throughout the preseason. Coach Jeff Hafley gets one last look at an intriguing rookie class — especially offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor, cornerback Chris Johnson and linebacker Jacob Rodriguez — before making cuts for the 53-man roster.
