JUPITER — A Brightline train struck a pedestrian along the Florida East Coast Railway tracks in Jupiter on Saturday, Aug. 15, town official said in a post on Facebook.
The town posted its report at about 7:30 p.m. It said the crash took place near Toney Penna Drive, south of Indiantown Road. It said police are investigating the incident.
The report did not identify the person, describe their injuries or say whether paramedics had taken them to a hospital.
The investigation closed Old Dixie Highway in both directions between Toney Penna and Jupiter Lakes, which is near Jupiter Medical Center. Old Dixie has since reopened.
The crash is the latest in Palm Beach County involving pedestrians and the railroads that run through it. There are few natural
barriers to the tracks anywhere in the county, with many of its major east-west roads crossing them.
The rail lines have worked with state and federal officials to make people who walk near the tracks more aware of the hazards, including signs, warning sounds and flashing lights on gates.
