A 65-year-old Wellington man is dead from injuries he sustained this past weekend when a car struck him as he walked across Military Trail in suburban West Palm Beach, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.
Investigators said Paul Andreacchio died Tuesday, Sept. 8, at a hospital they did not name, three days after a 2013 Kia Optima hit him near Kelmar Drive, about a mile south of President Donald J. Trump International Airport.
According to a crash report, Andreacchio was walking east across Military just after 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, and stopped at the center media.
He then “stumbled into the northbound left lane” and into the path of the Optima. The driver attempted to brake but could not avoid the collision, the report said.
The
force of the crash threw Andreacchio onto the Kia’s windshield and then onto the pavement.
No charges are pending in the crash, according to the sheriff’s report. The Kia driver, a 58-year-old Greenacres man, did not sustain injuries. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck
The report indicated that evidence at the scene suggested that either drugs or alcohol played a role in Andreacchio's death. It did not say how fast the Kia was traveling when the wreck happened.
