Coco Gauff is inching ever closer to becoming a two-time U.S. Open champion, though there's a lot of high-level tennis to play before that happens.
The Delray Beach, Florida, native must first tackle her match in the tournament quarterfinals, which she has reached for the first time since winning in Flushing Meadows in 2023. But her opponent will likely be her toughest competition to date in the tournament, as the fourth-seeded Gauff takes on fifth-seed Mirra Andreeva from Russia.
The 22-year-old Gauff needed only 93 minutes to dispatch of No. 14 seed Iva Jovic, 6-1, 6-4, on Sept. 7, winning 73% of the net points and recording only two aces. But at only 19, Andreeva already has a Grand Slam under her belt after she won this year's French Open.
