Voters in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties are being encouraged to register, stay informed and participate in the November General Election.
The Supervisors of Elections from the three counties will hold a joint news conference at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 23 at the Broward County Supervisor of Elections Headquarters, according to a recent announcement.
The event is part of a regional initiative to boost voter turnout and emphasize the importance of voter education and participation in elections at every level of government.
Why voter turnout matters
Presidential elections often receive the most attention, but the decisions made by local and state leaders can have a significant impact on everyday life, said Broward County Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott.
"Turnout is
traditionally lower during nonpresidential election years, but together, we have an opportunity to change that," Scott said. "Whether you choose to vote by mail, vote early or vote at your assigned polling place on Election Day, I encourage you to make a plan and choose the option that works best for you. It's important to make your voice heard."
Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Wendy Sartory Link said a strong democracy depends on informed and engaged voters.
"Palm Beach County is proud to join Miami-Dade and Broward counties in a regional effort to promote voter registration, voter education and election participation," Link said. "As September is recognized as Palm Beach County’s Voter Registration Month, we invite every eligible citizen to register, stay informed and be ready to make their voice heard at the ballot box."
South Florida sets the standard
Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections Alina Garcia said the three counties are coming together with one unified front because they share the same goal: to deliver secure, accurate, transparent and accessible elections and ensure every eligible voter can participate.
"One out of every four registered voters in Florida lives in our three counties, giving South Florida both the opportunity and the responsibility to set the standard for the state—and we can and must do better in the General Election," Garcia said. "Together, we are stronger. Let’s vote, South Florida!"
