Like the Rachel, the Bieber, the Pixie and the Mullet... the Donald as a hairstyle is as iconic as the president himself.
Before he became the 45th and 47th U.S. president, "The Donald" often referred to Donald Trump − and his signature hairstyle. This story takes a look back at different hairdos or coiffures for the billionaire-turned-commander-in-chief and how his hairdo (like his presidency) sparks a conversation.
On Aug. 5, 2026, when the president spoke about his economic policies in Las Vegas, the internet noticed a fuller head of golden locks, according to a USA TODAY story.
Trump's new look made its debut at the Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, when, during his speech, the president lauded his administration's
economic accomplishments, according to previous USA TODAY reporting, like tax breaks on tipped income, lower prescription drug prices and "Trump accounts."
But even as Trump tried to center focus on the country's economic outlook, the internet couldn't help but notice the president's full and shiny hair, sparking viral memes and even rumors he was wearing a wig.
Journalist Aaron Rupar immediately questioned the new mane: "Trump's hair, uh, has a lot more volume than normal," he posted on X. Rupar added: "Is Trump rocking a wig, or what the hell is going on here?"
"There is no freaken way that this is Trump’s real hair. NO WAY!" wrote Brian Krassenstein.
Previously, Trump went viral for a slicker do: In December 2024 in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump revealed a new look − slicked back hair. The internet noticed that, too.
A Michael Solakiewicz (@michaelsolakie) video showing the president-elect with slicked hair was posted and shared by X user @bennyjohnson on Dec. 17, 2024, on X. Two days later, the post had 1.2 million views and 30,000 likes. Parody accounts on X that are devoted to − and named after − Trump's hair weighed in on the conversation.
The verdict? Most seemed to approve of the then-president elect's hairstyle.
The comments about Donald Trump's hair sparked a conversation, jokes and memes: The hairstyle, the color, the famous combover, rumors of a toupee or hair extensions, and whether Trump is bald.
Over the years, his famous hair has been a hot topic:
- In 2015, Vanity Fair produced an illustrated history of Trump hair.
- In 2016, the Washington Post posted "the 100 best descriptions of Donald Trump's hair ever."
- In 2018, Trump's grandson, Luke Trump, then known as "baby Luke," made headlines for having a Donald Trump hairstyle.
- In 2024, a Reuters fact check story discusses a Trump "wig" video.
