Interrupting a golfer mid-swing ranks among the biggest breaches in etiquette in the sport. And it seems to have undone Charlie Woods in his quest to continue playing in the 2026 U.S. Junior Amateur.
The son of Tiger Woods, winner of 15 major championships and three Junior Amateurs, was part of a 14-way playoff Wednesday, July 22 to advance at the prestigious USGA tournament at Saucon Valley Golf Club in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The top two players would move on to the Round of 64 later that day.
On the first hole of the par-5 Grace Course, Woods was about to take his third shot out of the rough when video captured a camera clicking in the background. The Florida State commit was visibly frustrated as his ball heads toward the green.
Woods dropped
his club and gave an exasperated reaction. "Really, dude?" he said afterward. "I mean, come on."

The 18-year-old Woods needed a birdie on the hole to move on. He would bogey the hole and be eliminated from the playoff. Eli Wessel, a Cincinnati commit, and 16-year-old Hudson Kutchma survived the playoff after two holes to move on to match play.
Woods struggled at the start of the Junior Amateur with a 5-over 76 in the first round July 20 before bouncing back strong in Round 2. Starting on the back nine, the rising senior at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens went 4 under over a five-hole stretch that started with an eagle on No. 14. He closed with a par on his final hole to finish at even-par 70, just enough to qualify for the near-record playoff.
Woods' future teammate at FSU, Jacksonville Beach's Miles Russell, earned co-medalist honors and won his first match-play showdown later in the day.
