Voting in the August primary is well underway. Vote by mail ballots have already gone out. Early voting is in full swing and for those who prefer going to the polls on Election Day, Tueday, August 18 is just around the corner.
The Palm Beach Post Editorial Board has made its primary-race recommendations for Palm Beach County Commission, Palm Beach School Board, the Port of Palm Beach, County Judge Group 12 and for U.S. House Districts 21, 22, 23 and 25.
Florida is a closed primary state, which means only Democrats can vote for Democratic candidates in Democratic primaries and only Republicans can vote in Republican candidates in Republican primaries. Contests for county court and school board are non-partisan and are open to all registered voters
living within those districts. The Group 4 port seat is also open to all voters liviing in that district because only Democrats have qualified to run in that race.
Primary elections are important. While the hype has focused on the upcoming midterm elections in November, it's the vote in August that not only determines who your local leaders will be but also sets the stage for important congressional and statewide races in November that will determine who wields power in Tallahassee and Washington, D.C.. Whatever your choice, it's important to make your voice heard by early vote, vote by mail or by going to the polls on Aug. 18.
