The Miami Dolphins' West Coast trip to start the 2026 NFL season continues today with a visit to the San Francisco 49ers, who are back stateside after opening their year in Australia.
The Jeff Hafley era in Miami started with a 27-13 loss at Las Vegas. Malik Willis was sacked five times and ran for the team's only touchdown to make it close in the fourth quarter. Safeties Dante Trader and Michael Taaffe snagged their first career interceptions, but the defense took a hit when edge rusher Chop Robinson suffered a concussion that will keep him out of today's game.
They'll have their hands full with the 49ers, who stomped a popular Super Bowl pick in the Los Angeles Rams 27-7. Brock Purdy, who first burst onto the scene against the Dolphins back
in 2022, threw three touchdown passes. With Mike Evans and the return of Deebo Samuel out wide plus rookie Kaelon Black supporting Christian McCaffrey in the backfield, the Niners seem like one of the league's most potent offenses once again.

Dolphins vs 49ers predictions, picks for NFL Week 2
Vinnie Iyer, Sporting News
49ers 38, Dolphins 13: "The Dolphins look lost offensively, not a surprise with little to help the running of Malik Willis and De'Von Achane. The talent and experience is bare in relation to what the 49ers have with Kyle Shanahan. The 49ers' defense also has great momentum from Week 1 and will stay hot at home."
Pete Prisco, CBS Sports
49ers 29, Dolphins 10: "The Dolphins stayed on the West Coast after losing to the Raiders, while the 49ers have extra rest after playing last Thursday. That matters for an older team. But they are also the better team. This will get out of hand."
Nate Davis, USA TODAY
49ers 37, Dolphins 13: "It literally might be the mismatch of the season. The entire season. And the oddsmakers are pretty clearly in agreement, too. What more really needs to be said?"
Tim Kawakami, San Francisco Standard
49ers 27, Dolphins 13: "The 49ers built their schedule knowing they could pay for their Melbourne commitment with some wobbly legs in this one. But a few big plays and a dominant third quarter should be enough to pull away from one of the least talented teams in the league."
