A day after attending a college football game in Tennessee, President Donald Trump arrived at Medinah Country Club in Chicago for the final day of the 2026 Presidents Cup.

stand at the President's Cup to loud cheers and some lesser scattered boos that were drowned out by "USA!" chants. He was introduced by the CEO of the PGA Tour, Brian Rolapp. He made brief remarks, joking that he was not brave enough to subject the crowd to a speech, then jabbed at the "fake news media," whom he joked would report that he received a poor reception, before posing for pictures.
A few fans chanted out "four more years" in the stands behind him before Trump smiled and waved to the crowd a few more times, then departed.
Golfweek reported Trump had asked for 15 minutes to speak at the first tee. While that did not happen, his appearance at Medinah was the latest in a string of political moves his government has made ahead of November's midterm elections, including taxpayer-funded commercials touting his record (Trump is not on the ballot, but Republican candidates such as Florida's Byron Donalds have been distancing themselves from him as his approval ratings plummet below 30%).

Trump was named an honorary chairman of the Presidents Cup in the leadup to the event, a biennial golf tournament pitting 12 players from the United States against 12 international players in a four-day team competition. Every president going back to George H.W. Bush, as well as Gerald Ford, has received the honor.
Trump has a long history with golf, owning multiple courses around the world and boasting no fewer than 40 club championships (the validity of which remain under scrutiny). He was on hand for the first day of the Ryder Cup in 2025 and at May's Cadillac Championship for the PGA Tour's return to his course in Doral, where a giant gold statue of Trump caught a ton of attention.
It's more than just golf: The president has inserted himself into several sporting events throughout his second presidency. Before heading to Medinah, he attended the college football game pitting No. 1 Texas vs. No. 13 Tennessee in Knoxville, where ESPN's "College GameDay" was earlier in the day. The signature college football pregame show has been widely stumping for the Protect College Sports Act, which Trump has been eager to sign, despite criticism that leaving athletes out of the process of constructing the bill has severely limit their earning potential if it gets signed into law.
He also attended the College Football Playoff national championship game between Indiana and Miami, took the stage to deliver the World Cup trophy to Spain and showed up to watch the New York Knicks lose their only game in the 2026 NBA Finals.
Heading into today's final round, which will see 12 1-on-1 singles matches to conclude the tournament, the International team leads the Presidents Cup 10.5-7.5 over the hosts. The U.S. is 13-1-1 all-time in the event's history with 10 consecutive wins since 2005.
