The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach is offering a variety of exhibitions, performances and workshops through August, according to a recent announcement.
Located at 1450 S. Dixie Highway, the museum features rotating exhibits, weekly events and special programs for families, students and adults.
Exhibitions showcase diverse collections
Several exhibitions are on view this summer, including:
- Danielle Mckinney: Shelter — through Oct. 4
- RAW: In Retrospect — through Sept. 27
- 60 Seconds: Polaroids from the Collection — through Aug. 16
- Galloping Steed: Celebrating the Year of the Horse in Chinese Paintings — through Aug. 23
- Cursed Images: Pictures Out of Context — through Nov. 1
- Portrait Mode: Self-reflections from Past, Present, and Future — through Aug. 16. (art by students)
- Art & Independence: America at 250 — through Dec. 6
- Ralph Coburn: Land, Sea, Sky — through Jan. 3
- Chang Dai-Chien: A Master of Modern Chinese Painting — Aug. 29-Jan. 30
'Art After Dark' highlights local musicians and artists
Art After Dark takes place 5-10 p.m. Fridays through August, according to the announcement. The event features live music, tours, art workshops and artist talks. Admission is free for members and $10 for adults and seniors; students pay $5. The first Friday of the month is Jazz Friday.
- Aug. 7 – Joel Klein
- Aug. 14 – Dancing with DJ Rumble
- Aug. 21 – Bluesy contemporary folk music by Deserie & Jim
- Aug. 28 – End of Summer Celebration, with music by Larry Johnson's Essence of Motown
Tours are offered at 5 and 7 p.m., and Open Studio art workshops are available 6-9 p.m. Artist tours take place
at 8 p.m. the third Friday of the month.
Workshops and classes for all ages
The museum offers several workshops and classes in August:
- Family Studio: Celebrating Art Around the World – 11 a.m.-12:20 p.m. or 1-2:20 p.m. Saturdays, Aug. 1, 8, 22 and 29. Children ages 5-12 and their guardians can enjoy a 15-minute tour followed by an art workshop.
- Mindful Moments – Noon Monday, Aug. 3. Jodi Sypher will lead a mindfulness practice using a work of art as the focus.
- Adult Sketch Class – 1-3 p.m. Monday, August 10. Teaching Artist Shannon Walker will guide participants through sketching exercises in the galleries.
- Creative Connections: Art for Well-Being – 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21. This program is designed for individuals living with dementia and their care partners.
- Family Autism Art Workshop – 1-2 p.m. (K-6th grade) and 3-4 p.m. (7th-12th grade) Sunday, Aug. 23. Children with autism and their families can participate in interactive gallery time and an art workshop. Admission is free for this program.
- Sunday Wellness – 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Participants can join a wellness activity, with details available on the museum's website.
Performances and film screenings
- Jazz Brunch – 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9. The Restaurant will offer classic brunch fare with a complimentary Bloody Mary or glass of champagne. Jazz musician Susan Merritt will perform. Reservations are available at norton.org/Restaurant.
- Hollywood Gems Film Series – 2 p.m. Sundays. The series includes screenings of "The Grapes of Wrath" on Aug. 9 and "Tora! Tora! Tora!" on Aug. 23. Admission is free for members.
Admission and visitor information
General admission is free for members, $18 for the public, $15 for seniors (60+), and $5 for students with a valid school ID. Art After Dark admission is $10 for adults and seniors and $5 for students. Palm Beach County residents receive free admission on Saturdays through Sept. 5.
