Columbus the new No. 1 in Class 6A in Florida football Super 10 poll

Columbus is the new No. 1 in Class 6A and American Heritage returned to the top of the Class 4A in the latest USA Today Florida Super 10 polls.

Columbus shocked national power Bishop Gorman 33-28 in Week 2 and received eight of nine first-place votes. Venice, which had been No. 1 in Class 6A since the preseason, received the other first-place vote.

American Heritage rebounded from a loss to West Boca in Week 1 and knocked off Illinois power East St. Louis 35-28 in overtime last week. The Patriots got eight first-place votes, while Miami Northwestern got one.

St. Thomas Aquinas (Class 5A), Miami Central (Class 3A) and Carrollwood Day (Class 1A) were unanimous No. 1 selections. Aquinas is No. 1 on both the USA Today national Super 25 and the USA Today Florida

Super 25. Columbus is sixth on the national poll and third on the Florida poll.

Carol City stayed at No. 1 in Class 2A, topping Chaminade-Madonna five votes to four.
