A Boynton Beach barbecue joint that shuttered recently after a decade in business announced at its closing day celebration it will live on after all, and close by.
Pig-Sty BBQ, which closed its Boynton Beach Boulevard restauranton Sunday, aims to serve up pork ribs, chicken wings, sandwiches and other saucy, meaty courses once more starting Aug. 26 at the nearby Bungalow Bar & Grill on Northeast Fourth Street, one block west of U.S. 1.
Pig-Sty's crew of four will cook in Bungalow's kitchen and also run a food truck by the Florida East Coast railroad tracks behind the restaurant, Pig-Sty co-owner Tom Rhodemyre said.
Pig-Sty wrote on Facebook on July 7 that it was serving its last meal July 26, no longer able to remain in business after a big dropoff
in customers when construction began in the plaza parking. Crews tore up parking in late 2025 and had yet to finish the job, according to the post.
"The chaos with the road construction and the parking lot was the final straw that broke our back," Pig-Sty wrote on Facebook.
Prior to parking lot problems, the surge in food prices following the end of the COVID-19 pandemic was beating the restaurant's bottom line as they tried keeping prices relatively low, Rhodemyre said.
"I was cutting into my margin until my margin was gone," Rhodemyre said. Pig-Sty would have charged $43 per pound for its Texas brisket if the restaurant wanted to match inflation, rather than the $27 it was charging, Rhodemyre said.
Now, saving money by using another restaurant's kitchen and a standalone food truck, and charging more for some menu items, Pig-Sty will be in better financial shape, Rhodemyre said.
Rhodemyre and Bungalow co-owner Juan Carlos had been in talks during the weeks prior to Pig-Sty's closure about opening the BBQ there. "They wanted some help with their food situation," Rhodemyre said.
As for menu changes, Pig-Sty plans to add seafood and cut its platters, Rhodemyre said, focusing on handheld food and basket-friendly items.
