One person is in federal immigration custody following a hit-and-run crash on Aug. 27 near Palm Beach Gardens that injured a Florida Highway Patrol trooper, authorities said.
A spokesperson for FHP said law enforcement arrested the person shortly after a traffic crash that occurred at about 4:45 p.m. near Beeline Highway and Jog Road. Questions about the person's immigration status led U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to take them into custody.
A trooper from FHP sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash, according to a statement from the state agency. FHP did not disclose the names either of the injured trooper or the person arrested person.

on the eastbound Beeline when the vehicle veered across the grass median and into the path of an FHP vehicle.
The vehicles crashed, causing extensive damage to the driver's door of the law-enforcement vehicle, according to the statement. For reasons unknown, the Chevy driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, investigators said.
Deputies from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and officers from the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department assisted with the ensuing search. Both agencies referred questions to FHP.
