Regarding the Aug. 2 column, “Opponents
of AI centers on the wrong side of history:” It is an interesting title for an article that ignores a few salient historical points. Over time, the computational abilities of personal computers have grown exponentially. What used to take up a whole building now sits on your desk in a small box. Using AI as a justification to build massive data centers with huge amounts of financed money seems a bit shortsighted. As tech advances, as it always does, it will become increasingly easier to run large language models from your desktop. So, what’s the rush to build these resource-intensive infrastructures? I realize the need for communication networks and some server farms, but AI shouldn’t be the driving factor to massive centralization just to run large language models.

Remember to honor Purple Heart Day
Purple Heart Day will be nationally observed on Friday, Aug. 7. It will open memories and experiences identifying the enormous suffering and loss of life that has been endured by our soldiers in the field of combat: scars and injuries that are shared across a soldier's life and that of his family's forever.
Gold Star family members will have provided to them their loved one's remains and a Purple Heart Medal affixed to a burial flag designating their loss. This will serve as a "remembrance" of the precious life they birthed and cared for, until it was mortally taken or injured in combat. Perhaps, during our busy and stressful day we will find a moment to pause and reflect on Aug. 7, remembering the blood sacrifices endured by these Veterans of the Purple Heart.

DJT airport name won't last
I agree with the letter writer who opined that avoiding the use of our airport to protest its re-naming is futile, and will have little effect. So, yes, the president's sycophants have temporarily won. It's my fervent hope, however, that in 20 to 25 years, after President Trump and I have shuffled off this mortal coil that common sense will prevail, and it will revert to its previous name.
Someone will question why an airport is named for a man whose only known friend was a convicted pedophile who committed suicide in jail before he could talk about his friendship and shared interests with this president, a man whose term in office consisted of grifts and bribes, a man whose major achievement was reducing the tax burden of the wealthy while removing food support and health care for the less privileged, a man who incited a mob of supporters to attack the Capitol building leading to five deaths. Someday, some sense of decency will return, and the airport will be renamed again. Until then, I intend to continue to refer to our airport as "PBI," or alternately, "Felon International."
