The search for a paddleboarder missing off the coast of Jupiter entered its fourth day on Thursday, Sept. 17, with a long-range search-and-rescue surveillance aircraft and three U.S. Coast Guard cutters deployed in the Atlantic.
In an update posted that morning, the U.S. Coast Guard reported that crews from the Station Lake Worth Inlet in Riviera Beach and Station Fort Pierce were continuing to search for Matt Pawlowski, The 48-year-old man was last seen on the morning of Monday, Sept. 14, as he navigated the waters about 4 miles off Jupiter Beach.
Extensive nighttime air and surface searches have taken place since then, the Coast Guard said. The search-and-rescue plane flew nearly 900 miles from Air Station Elizabeth City in North Carolina on Sept.
17 to help find Pawlowski.
The Coast Guard previously reported on Wednesday, Sept. 16, that an unmanned paddleboard matching the description of one seen being used by Pawlowski was found about 10 miles off the coast of Jupiter Island. A Good Samaritan pulled it in the ocean and turned over to police.
The Coast Guard said Pawlowski was navigating the waters on a 14-foot lime-green-and-yellow paddleboard when he went missing.
Few personal details about Pawlowski were immediately available.
Published reports said Pawlowski is an executive at NextEra energy, the parent company for Florida Power & Light, in Juno Beach. A company spokesperson said its policies prohibit disclosing whether someone works there or releasing any information about an employee.
The North Palm Beach Rowing Club said Pawlowski has been a member for about two years, with one person describing him as an excellent rower.
