What is the story about?
Miami Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley spoke with reporters on Saturday, Aug. 29, one day after a loss to the Atlanta Falconsbrought the team to 0-3 in the preseason.
Miami must get down from 90 players to 53 by 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30 and cuts have already begun.
Here is what Jeff Hafley said the day after the game:
- We are going through the process right now. Jeff will defer roster cut questions to Jon-Eric Sullivan, who will speak with reporters in the next few days.
- Kenneth Grant is an ongoing discussion. It will become more clear in regards to if he can be ready for the first game.
- TE Will Kacmarek is week to week and will be out this week.
- At the moment, the team is likely to keep two quarterbacks. (We can add that logic suggests the backup will be Quinn Ewers on the initial 53-man roster. But his spot is in jeopardy to a cut veteran.)
- At the moment, the team may or may not be likely to keep four tailbacks. (We can add the Dolphins just traded for running back Jarquez Hunter. It would figure he'll make the team. The only reason to think there could be three running backs is if Jaylen Wright or Ollie Gordon II were to be traded.)
- The plan to hold out many starters in preseason is best for the team.
- Coaches will start game-planning this week. There will be preparations for the Las Vegas game beginning this week.
- The team has to be careful because they want to be healthy in the first game.
- "We are young," Hafley said. "And we have three new system. This is the infancy."
- We are thin. We have to develop the depth of the team.
