Columbus athlete A'mir Sears, who reclassified to the 2027 class in July, is the new No. 1 player on the USA TODAY Florida Network top 100. The 6-foot-1½, 181-pound Sears was No. 3 on the preseason update.
Sears, a Miami commit, has shown off his elite abilities as both a defensive back and wide receiver this season. He's had multiple stunning performances this season, but none was bigger than what he did against national power Bishop Gorman (Nevada) in Week 2.
Sears caught five passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns — with both catches coming against a four-star Oregon commit — and intercepted three passes in Columbus' 33-28 upset win. Columbus assistant coaches have raved about Sears' complete game and his elite abilities on both sides
of the ball.
Carol City wide receiver Nick Lennear, also a Miami commit, remains No. 2. St. Thomas Aquinas offensive tackle Mark Matthew, a Texas A&M commit, is No. 3. Matthews had been No. 1 in the previous three updates.
Texas A&M has commitments from five of the top nine players in the state. Miami has commitments from four players in the top 20. Notre Dame has a trio of commitments in the top 20, led by Vero Beach quarterback Champ Monds.
