U.S. Coast Guard crews are preparing to search through the night for a 48-year-old man who went missing this week while paddleboarding off the coast of Jupiter.
In an update the evening of Friday, Sept. 18, the Coast Guard said planes and cutter-vessel crews are continuing to look for Matt Pawlowksi, who was last seen on the morning of Monday, Sept. 14, about 4 miles offshore.
The search for Pawlowski reached its fifth day on Sept. 18, with three Coast Guard cutter ships leading it with assistance from a long-range Coast Guard surveillance aircraft.
According to Coast Guard reports, Pawlowski was last seen heading east at about 9 a.m. Sept. 14 as he navigated the waters off Jupiter Beach.
The agency said Pawlowski, 48, was riding a 14-foot lime-green-and-yellow
paddleboard when he went missing.
An unmanned paddleboard matching the one he was using was found Sept. 16 off the coast of Jupiter Island, north of Jupiter Beach. A Good Samaritan recovered it and turned it over to police.
An online profile indicates that Pawlowksi is an executive at NextEra Energy, the parent company for Florida Power & Light, in Juno Beach and that he once served as treasurer for the Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Commission. Pawlowski has been a member of the North Palm Beach Rowing Club and he has actively been involved in fitness training.
A member of the rowing club described Pawlowski as an excellent rower.
