The El Paso County Commissioners Court approved a resolution recognizing United States Men’s National Team star Ricardo Pepi, declaring a “Ricardo Pepi Day” in El Paso County.
That came Monday, Aug. 24.
Pepi, who grew up in San Elizario after being born in an El Paso hospital, played in all five games in the World Cup for the USMNT, which won a round-of-32 game in July. Pepi was one of two El Pasoans on the 26-player squad, along with Juarez-born Alejandro Zendejas.
A day before the El Paso County Commissioners Court approved the resolution, Pepi scored a goal for his club team PSV Eindhoven in a 5-1
opening-day rout over Groningen. Pepi and Eindhoven will be back in action Sunday, Aug. 30 against FC Utrecht.
