El Paso and the University of Texas at El Paso committed to a simple principle on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks — never forget.
More than 1,500 people participated in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb held at the Sun Bowl on Friday, Sept. 11, honoring the memories of those killed in the terrorist attacks on the U.S.
Members of Fort Bliss Army Post, the U.S. Border Patrol, FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration joined in the commemorative stair climb.
The UTEP Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, in partnership with the city of El Paso and the El Paso County Emergency Services District No. 1, held the event to honor and remember the firefighters, police officers and emergency medical services staff who died on Sept. 11, 2001.
The event
included an opening ceremony with remarks by UTEP President Heather Wilson, El Paso Police Department Chief Peter Pacillas, El Paso Fire Department Chief Jonathan Killings and El Paso County ESD No. 1 Fire Chief Kristian Menendez.
A 21-gun salute and a flyover by the 1st Armored Division Aviation Brigade from Fort Bliss also commemorated the anniversary.
