Taco Bell has reportedly added several menu items after the fast-food chain removed lettuce from some restaurants amid a cyclosporiasis outbreak.
The new Fresca Pepper Jack Steak Burrito and Melty Pepper Jack Steak Burrito both feature marinated steak, a new Pepper Jack sauce and a three-cheese blend. Each burrito costs $3.
Taco Bell also brought back the Enchirito, made with a flour tortilla filled with seasoned beef and refried beans, then topped with red sauce. A Chili Cheese Burrito was also added to the menu.
The new steak burritos have received overwhelmingly positive reviews on Reddit, with several users praising their flavor and price.
“It’s pretty good,” one user wrote. “Unique flavor for Taco Bell, I thought, and getting a steak burrito
for $3 is a great deal.”
Taco bell sees drop in customers, according to tracking data
Taco Bell experienced a sharp drop in foot traffic after being linked to an ongoing cyclosporiasis outbreak, according to USA TODAY.
Visits to Taco Bell restaurants nationwide fell by more than 30% on July 17 compared with the chain’s average Friday traffic from Jan. 1 through July 6, according to Placer.ai, which tracks visits using mobile-device and location data.
The fast-food chain said the decision was made “based on ongoing conversations with public health officials, and out of an abundance of caution.”
"Taco Bell worked swiftly to voluntarily remove the product from restaurants and the affected ingredient has been removed from our supply chain nationwide. We took this action to ensure our guests can enjoy their Taco Bell favorites safely," the statement said.
