Rolando "Rolly" Romero will make his first defense of the WBA welterweight title against former two-weight world champion Teofimo Lopez
Romero and Lopez are set to battle at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, Aug. 22.
Romero holds a 17-2 record and is making his return to the ring after a 15-month hiatus. After suffering a defeat to Isaac Cruz in March 2024, Romero bounced back with two dominant performances: a decisive victory against Manuel Jaimes in September 2024 followed by a win vs. Ryan Garcia in May 2025, where he captured the WBA welterweight belt in front of a packed crowd at Times Square in New York City.
Lopez enters the bout with a record of 22-2 with 13 knockouts. Lopez is making his welterweight debut and is a former lightweight
and junior welterweight champion. Lopez's best wins include a stoppage of Richard Commey for the IBF lightweight title and a decision win vs. Vasiliy Lomanchenko for the WBO, WBA and Ring lightweight titles.
