It is less than two months until Election Day and Democrat Texas governor candidate Gina Hinojosa is again calling out Gov. Greg Abbott for not taking part in a debate.
Since it is 10 days before the proposed Nexstar/KXAN News gubernatorial debate and one month before the proposed NBCUniversal/Hearst gubernatorial debate, Abbott has yet to publicly commit to either.
"Greg Abbott won't debate me because he is a weak governor with a failed record of rising property taxes, gutting public schools, and giving data centers the biggest tax break in the country," Hinojosa said. "Abbott has had 12 years to deliver for Texans and instead has spent every day doing the bidding of his billionaire donors at the expense of working people.

lies and a speech in front of his party bosses won’t change the fact that Texans in every community, every party, and every poll have made it clear: they are ready for change."
Abbott has remained silent and has not publicly responded to or accepted Hinojosa's repeated calls for a public debate. Instead of addressing the debate invitations, Abbott and his campaign have focused their public messaging on attacking Hinojosa's legislative voting record, particularly regarding gender politics and school policies.
Important dates for 2026 Texas election
The last day to register to vote for the General Election is Oct. 5, either online, by mail, or in person.
Early voting starts Oct. 19 and runs through Oct. 30. The absentee ballot request deadline is Oct. 23 for mail requests or Oct. 19 for in-person requests. The absentee ballot return deadline is Nov. 3, by mail or in person on Election Day.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
