The Albuquerque-based Dion's Pizza is opening its second location in El Paso on Thursday, Sept. 24.
Dion's will open at 10:30 a.m. at 3154 N. Zaragoza Road, along with members of the community. Students from various arts and athletics groups at Pebble Hills High School will be in attendance.
This will be Dion's 29th location company-wide and the fourth in Texas. The first one in El Paso opened in June of 2024 at 7484 Paseo del Norte Blvd., off Resler Drive.
The company also operates two locations in Lubbock, as well as restaurants throughout New Mexico and Colorado.
“We’ve felt incredibly welcomed by the El Paso community since opening our first location,” said Dion’s CEO Mark Herman in an email. “We’re excited to join the Eastside and create an easy,
comfortable neighborhood place where families and friends can connect. We look forward to building relationships with the schools, businesses and families in this part of the city.”
The 4,200-square-foot location features a drive-thru pick-up window for advance orders, an open kitchen and dining room with seating for up to 78 and catering and delivery availability.
The new restaurant, which is creating approximately 65 jobs, is known for its pizza, salads and subs. Among its most popular pizzas is the 505, ranch and pepperoni with green chile pizza.
Dion’s Pizza was founded in 1978 by Jon Patten and Bill Scott in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Over 46 years, the company has grown to 29 stores, employs over 2,000 and has added locations in Colorado and Texas.

Basilico opens second location in El Paso
Basilico, a restaurant with roots in Juárez, is expanding its presence in El Paso with a second location in the Kern area.
The first restaurant opened in September of last year and has been thriving on the Eastside, at 12900 Eastlake Blvd., Suite A106-10.
The owner recently announced on Facebook that the Italian restaurant now has a second location at Kern Village, 2701 N. Stanton St.
The restaurant offers a tasty pizza, pasta and salad menu as well as a great lunch special from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday for $10.99. Happy Hour is from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. And join the app to get a free pizza during your birthday month.
Pizza Joint continues growing with new location
The Pizza Joint has been expanding quickly, having added a fourth location on Eastlake in February of this year and now operating a fifth location on the Eastside.
The latest Pizza Joint location is at 2106 N. Zaragoza Road in Sunfire Village, already added to the business website.
The original Pizza Joint was established in March of 2011, creating one of the first pizza-by-the-slice restaurants in El Paso. It has established itself as a favorite spot for its 20-inch pizzas.
