Archer, a dog who found himself in a dangerous traffic situation along the border highway, helped rescue himself.
El Paso Animal Services reported on its Facebook page that a call on Sunday, Sept. 20, led to an El Paso Animal Services Animal Protection officers teaming up with the El Paso Police Department to try to get the dog safely off the road.
"While El Paso Police Department officers were trying to catch Archer, he decided to make things easier and just jumped right into one of the police cars," the El Paso Animal Services' post stated.
Once the dog was secured, the Animal Protection officer scanned him for a microchip, setting up a happy reunion with his owners.
"Because his microchip was registered, we were able to identify his owner and
get in touch with his family," the post said. "Before long, this unexpected passenger was reunited with the person who had been looking for him."
El Paso Animal Services officials said Archer's story is proof that microchips work and keeping the microchip information up to date can make all the difference when pets unexpectedly get away from home.
