A driver was arrested on an intoxication manslaughter charge in connection with a wrong-way collision that killed a man on a bridge at the Americas freeway interchange in far East El Paso.
Julian Lujan, 25, of San Elizario, was booked into the El Paso County jail in Downtown on Saturday, Aug. 15, according to a jail log. He is being held on a $150,000 bond. No attorney is listed for him on court records.
Lujan is accused in the death of Alberto Gonzalez Juarez, 72, of El Paso, in a head-on collision that occurred about 4:50 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, at the Interstate 10 East and Loop 375 interchange, stated an El Paso police news release by spokeswoman Detective
Judy Oviedo.
The series of interconnected freeway bridges is also known as the Americas interchange.
Lujan was driving a black 2026 GMC Sierra southbound on the northbound lanes of Loop 375 when he collided head-on with a red 2007 Toyota Yaris driven by Gonzalez Juarez, police stated. Gonzalez Juarez died at a hospital.
Lujan was arrested as part of an investigation by the Special Traffic Investigations Unit and the DWI Task Force.
This case was the 36th traffic-related death in El Paso compared with 37 in the same period in 2025, the Police Department stated.
