Shiyazh Pete did not get picked up by the Dallas Cowboys to their practice squad, meaning he’s still an NFL free agent looking for a team.

Pete, who played for four years at New Mexico State before finishing last season at Kentucky, made history when he became the first Navajo to sign with an NFL team. He played in two of Dallas’ preseason games and a large contingent of Navajos took over a section at Arizona’s stadium to cheer on Pete.

After that win, he broke the team down with a speech that went viral.

He was listed as a third-team guard and was waived in Sunday’s final cuts. He was not one of the 16 practice

squad players Dallas signed on Monday.

On Monday, the Cowboys also surprisingly waived quarterback Joe Milton, who seemed the front runner to be QB2 as recently as last week. They waived him to make room for running back Emari Demercado, who was waived by the Kansas City Chiefs.
