Unlabeled chemicals, unsanitary raw meat amid violations in inspection

A Mexican restaurant inspected by El Paso health inspectors in July had several violations, including unlabeled chemical bottles and raw meat left out overnight.

Vic's Flautas y Tortas, at 201 South Main St. in Anthony, Texas, received a 65 in an inspection conducted on July 8.

A score of 70 or above is passing. A score of 60 or below will initiate the closure of the establishment.

The following inspection was done on July 8 and the restaurant was given a 65 score.

1. Observed raw chicken, raw meat, and ham at 46 degrees inside prep table refrigerator.
2. Observed caldo at 120 degrees on flat stove.
3. Observed utensils with food-contact surfaces containing food/dust-like residue stored on rack by prep table.
4. Observed food handler not wash hands before handling food.
5. Observed food handler handle ready-to-eat food with bare hands.
6. Observed unlabeled chemical spray bottles stored on rack by ice machine.
7. Observed TCS foods stored inside reach-in refrigerator past discard date.
8. Observed expired sanitizer testing strips by three-compartment sink.
9. Observed no paper towels at the front hand-wash sink.
10. Observed broken/burnt plastic food lids stored on rack next to three-compartment sink.
11. Observed personal handgun on top of food container and next to food equipment by hand washing sink.
12. Observed soiled wiping cloths left on prep table.
13. Observed multiple items of food exposed to areas with food-like and/or grease-like residue above them.
14. Observed wet stacked containers on shelf near three-compartment sink.
15. Observed single-use utensils stored inside a bin containing food-like residue by rack next to prep table.
16. Observed unlabeled squeeze bottle storing food by cooking line.
17. Observed food-like residue and grease-like accumulation throughout establishment.
18. Observed accumulated grease dripping from hood system vents.
19. Observed front hand washing sink out of service.
