U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders stopped in El Paso, drawing a packed crowd to the Abraham Chavez Theatre.
The Vermont independent visited El Paso on Oct. 19 as part of his nationwide "Fighting Oligarchy: Where We Go From Here" tour. Several prominent Texas Democrats joined him, including former El Paso Congressman Beto O'Rourke, U.S. Rep. Greg Casar, D-Austin, and U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-El Paso.
With the midterm election just over two weeks away, Sanders urged supporters to head to the polls and encourage others to vote. Early voting in Texas started Oct. 19 and runs through Oct. 30.
"In the next 16 days, I'm asking you to do everything you can to bring out the vote," Sanders told the crowd. "Let's win this election — let's create a government
that works for all, not just a few."
Sanders thanked El Paso in a social media post following the event.
"Thanks El Paso, Texas, for a great event and a great turnout. Oligarchic greed is destroying our economy. The rich get richer while working families struggle," he wrote on Facebook.
The former presidential candidate is heading to Houston on Tuesday, Oct. 20, where O'Rourke will join him on stage again.
