The El Paso community honored the lives lost at the Cielo Vista Walmart mass shooting as part of the seventh anniversary of the day a gunman took the lives of 23 people and injured dozens more.
El Paso County marked the anniversary with a reading of the 23 victims’ names at the El Paso County Healing Garden inside Ascarate Park, a place that has become a space for reflection, remembrance and families and community members.
On Aug. 3, 2019, 23 people were killed in the attack, including both El Pasoans and Mexican citizens, in a tragedy that left a lasting impact on the Borderland.
Since then, the community has continued to heal and remember the victims.
