Public safety concerns, including drunken driving and speeding, will be the topic of a community meeting with El Paso Police Chief Peter Pacillas in the Upper East Side.
The meeting, hosted by East Side city Rep. Ivan Niño, will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at the El Paso Police Department's Upper East Side Regional Command Center, 14301 Pebble Hills Blvd.
Pacillas and Executive Assistant Chief Zina Silva will join Niño for a conversation on the city's new anti-DWI strategy, crime and traffic enforcement, Niño stated on social media.
The El Paso City Council has been working with EPPD to create a comprehensive strategy to reduce drunken driving focusing on education, prevention, community collaboration and enforcement.
New speed limit on Horizon Boulevard, McCombs Street

news, the speed limit has been decreased in part of McCombs Street near the edge of Northeast El Paso and Horizon Boulevard in the Horizon City area.
New speed limit signs have been installed after a Texas Department of Transportation speed-zone study determined the need for lower speeds in rapidly growing areas along both roads, TxDOT and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office announced via social media.
The speed limit has been reduced from 55 mph to 45 mph on McCombs Street from Sean Haggerty Drive extending north about a mile past U.S. 54, TxDOT said.
In the Horizon City area, sections with an old speed limit of 50 mph are now 45 mph on all of Horizon Boulevard from North Loop Drive to Ascension Street, TxDOT said.
