Hurricane Polo made landfall in Baja California Sur early Tuesday, Sept. 29, and is moving across Mexico, sending tropical moisture north into the Southwest, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The moisture from Polo is helping fuel another round of rain and thunderstorms across El Paso and surrounding areas. The National Weather Service has a flood watch in effect for the Borderland through Wednesday morning as multiple rounds of rain move through the region.
El Paso could see 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain from the storm system, with isolated totals of 3 to 4 inches possible, according to the National Weather Service. For the latest rainfall forecast and totals.
The storm is expected to cross the Gulf of California before making a second landfall
on the Mexican mainland, sometime Tuesday, Sept. 29, then weaken as it moves inland.

Polo made landfall Tuesday, Sept. 29, just south of Las Barrancas in Baja California Sur with maximum sustained winds of 110 mph, making it a Category 2 hurricane.
The storm was moving northeast at about 13 mph, as of the latest advisory at 10 a.m.
This forecast track shows the most likely path of the center of the storm. It does not illustrate the full width of the storm or its impacts, and the center of the storm is likely to travel outside the cone up to 33% of the time.

Polo is expected to move northeast across Baja California Sur and the Gulf of California before reaching mainland Mexico.
The hurricane is expected to make a second landfall in southern Sonora while still at hurricane strength, according to the National Hurricane Center. It is then forecast to weaken rapidly as it moves inland.
