Amazon.com data centers are fueling the recently announced expansion of Wiwynn Corp.’s data-server factory complex in Socorro, an El Paso suburb, creating thousands of jobs over several years.
Officials with both companies took part in a ceremony Sept. 9 at Wiwynn’s Socorro factory to announce the facility is supplying Amazon’s growing need for computer server systems for its data centers.
William Lin, chief executive officer of Taiwan-based Wiwynn, put an eye-popping price tag on the Socorro expansion: $1.6 billion.
That’s well above the more than $400 million Wiwynn officials previously said would be invested in the Socorro complex. They agreed to build and expand the complex to get $9.26 million in tax rebates and other incentives via economic
development agreements with El Paso County and the city of Socorro.

“Through our over $1.6 billion investment in the Texas facility, we are expanding our ability to address the growing demand of U.S. customers, reinforce the resilience of the global supply chain, and create high-value career opportunities as we continue to grow in partnership with the local community,” Lin said in a statement.
He attended the event at the Socorro factory, which opened in January. Officials with the U.S. trade and commerce departments also were in attendance.
The $1.6 billion is Wiwynn's investment from 2025 to now, and includes the cost of land, buildings, equipment, and construction, Frances Wu, a Wiwynn spokesperson, said in an email.
Details of Amazon's commercial agreement with Wiwynn were not divulged by the companies.
Supplying Amazon is a “very significant part of the production there,” and driving the expansion, said William Porter, an Amazon spokesperson.
Wiwynn's servers are a critical part of Amazon's data centers that "power the services millions of people and businesses rely on every day," and are helping strengthen its U.S. supply chain, according to Amazon's Sept. 9 news release.
Amazon also has a presence in El Paso with alarge fulfillment center, within view of the Wiwynn factory, and a recently opened delivery center in West El Paso.
Joseph Hsu, managing director of Wiwynn's North America operations, announced at an Aug. 21 event with El Paso County and Socorro officials that Wiwynn plans to open a second Socorro factory in 2027, adding just over 1,100 employees to its workforce now at 1,330 people.
It plans to have four factory buildings by 2028, Hsu said.
The complex is expected to employ 4,000 people at full capacity, according to Amazon’s news release.
It's in the Socorro Logistics Center industrial park along Nuevo Hueco Tanks Boulevard, an extension of Eastlake Boulevard, in far East El Paso County. The complex is across the street from the large Eastlake Valley housing subdivision.
Wiwynn provided the first public view inside its Socorro factory via photos released Sept. 9.
The expansion also is prompting Wiwynn to build a 120-megawatt, natural gas-fueled power plant builtnear its current factory to supplement power it gets from El Paso Electric. That will replace 13 portable natural gas generators now in use next to the first factory. Those produce up to 20MW of electricity.
