"No Kings" protests are taking place across Texas this weekend where organizers are shifting the focus to encouraging voter participation ahead of the November midterm elections.
Demonstrations and voter outreach events organized under the theme "No Kings: Vote Early," are scheduled on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17-18. Rallies are expected to bring participants to cities including Dallas, Houston, Austin, El Paso and Midland, along with several smaller Texas communities.
While previous demonstrations largely focused on opposition to President Donald Trump's administration, this weekend's events will also emphasize voter education, early voting and election participation, according to the "No Kings" website.
"It's a day of nonpartisan voter participation,
being in community with each other, and making sure every eligible voter has a plan, knows their options, and is ready to make their voice count," the website states.
The events come just two days before early voting begins in Texas on Monday, Oct. 19. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
