Two El Paso men died in separate traffic collisions that occurred about an hour apart, one involving a sports motorcycle on the far East Side and the other involving a pickup truck on Transmountain Road.
The first crash occurred about 3:20 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at the intersection of Pebble Hills Boulevard and Nolan Richardson Drive, stated an El Paso Police Department news release by spokeswoman Detective Judy Oviedo.
Eric Scott Spink, 21, was killed in a collision while riding a red 2007 Kawasaki ZX6 at a high speed heading westbound on Pebble Hills Boulevard, police said.
A gray 2019 Mazda CX9 SUV, driven by Martha Patricia Herrera, 69, who was traveling with
two child passengers, a 6-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy, was heading east on Pebble Hills, police said.
The Mazda was attempting to make a left turn onto Nolan Richardson Drive when the Kawasaki collided with the Mazda, police said. Spink was thrown from his motorcycle and died of his injuries.
The collision resulted in the 40th traffic-related death in El Paso this year compared with 41 at the same time last year, according to police department numbers.
One dead in Transmountain Road collision
An El Paso driver died at a hospital following a two-vehicle collision that closed Transmountain Road for several hours, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said.
Eric Reyes, 37, was fatally injured in a collision that occurred about 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, on the Northeast side of Transmountain Road, sheriff's spokeswoman Priscilla I. Contreras said in a news release.
Reyes was driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck heading westbound on the right lane when he "made an unsafe lane change" and collided with a Toyota Camry heading west on the left lane, the Sheriff's Office stated.
Reyes was transported to a hospital, where he later died, the Sheriff's Office said.
Transmountain Road in both directions was closed for more than five hours Monday evening as the collision was investigated by the sheriff's Special Traffic Investigators unit. The mountain pass was opened by 10:30 p.m. Monday.
