Halloween candy sold at Texas retailers, including Marshalls and TJ Maxx, is being recalledbecause the packaging failed to disclose a milk allergen.
Crystal Temptations is recalling its Halloween Chocolatey Eyeballs, which were distributed in Texas, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Aug. 31.
People who are allergic or severely sensitive to milk could experience a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat the recalled candy, according to the FDA.
The products were sold at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods and Sierra Trading Post.
The recall was initiated after a TJX analyst discovered that the Chocolatey Eyeballs contained whey, a milk ingredient, but the packaging did not disclose the presence of milk, the FDA said.
An investigation
determined the labeling issue was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes, according to the FDA. Consumers who purchased the recalled candy are urged to destroy it. Refunds are not available at the original point of sale.
Instead, customers must contact Crystal Temptations and provide proof of purchase to receive a refund at 1-201-246-7990.
