With three months left in the Texas governor election, Democratic candidate Gina Hinojosa will visit the University of Texas at El Paso to greet supporters.
The event, only open to UTEP students, will also feature former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke to bolster support for a blue wave in Texas. The meet and greet will take place at 12 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31 at the Union Building East in the Thomas Rivera Conference Center.
The opportunity to meet with current and former Democratic candidates for Texas governor is being organized by the UTEP College Democrats and the Gina for Texas campaign.
Six new polls this month show a virtual tie between Hinojosa and Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in the race for Texas governor.
Abbott also
visited El Paso on Aug. 19to discuss education and what he called "bloated" school district budgets, taking aim at El Paso Independent School District. That was the second visit this month, with another on Aug. 5, to discuss spurring home building in the state.
