A 63-year-old woman died after her vehicle was crashed into from behind and pushed into oncoming traffic on North Loop Drive in Socorro, officials said.
The fatal collision occurred about 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, on North Loop Drive at the intersection with Bauman Road, a Socorro police news release stated. The woman's name was not released pending notification of family.
The woman was driving a silver 2017 Kia Soul that was stopped westbound on North Loop Drive while waiting for traffic to clear to make a left turn to Bauman Road, police stated.
The stopped Kia was hit from behind by a westbound red 2004 Ford Mustang driven by a 21-year-old woman. The Kia then
went into oncoming traffic, where it collided with a black 2023 Nissan Rouge that was eastbound on North Loop, police said.

The driver of the Kia was critically injured. Emergency crews performed CPR and she was transported to hospital, where she died of her injuries, police said.
A 26-year-old woman driving the Nissan and her 1-year-old boy, who accompanied her, were both taken to a hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life threatening, police said. The Mustang driver was not injured.
The fatal collision is under investigation by the Sister Cities Major Crimes Unit, a collaborative team of traffic investigators from the Socorro and Horizon City police departments, officials said.
North Loop Drive was closed between Barnhart Drive and Sunset Valley Avenue during the investigation at the site.
